how to auto share old wordpress posts to social media

Want more eyes on your old WordPress content?

I’ve put together this step-by-step guide that’ll show you how to auto share old WordPress posts to social media.

The whole process takes only a few minutes, and it’s pretty easy – even if you’re just starting out with WordPress.

Let’s get started:

Step 1: Sign Up for ClickSocial

While there are a bunch of social scheduling tools out there, I prefer ClickSocial because it has a few handy features:

  • Post Revival campaigns that can auto share content to social media
  • Support for the biggest platforms out there: X, Facebook, and Instagram
  • Convenient post calendar to keep track of your scheduled and published posts

You can create a ClickSocial account here. Just open the site and click on Sign Up.

Now, return to your website and open the Plugins » Add New Plugin menu from the dashboard.

You can now use the search bar to look for the “ClickSocial” plugin.

After that, click on the Install Now on the plugin below.

Wait a few seconds for the installation to be over, then you can Activate ClickSocial.

Step 2: Connect WordPress to ClickSocial

To connect ClickSocial to WordPress, you can generate a unique API key and add it to your site.

First, return to your ClickSocial dashboard and then click on the Generate API Key button.

Whenever you create a new API key, you can find it listed on this page. It’s pretty handy if you have multiple websites that you want to use with ClickSocial.

For now, I’ll click on the Add Now button here.

This will open a popup where you can enter the name of your website. It’s just a label to help keep track of websites, so you can enter any memorable name here if you like.

After doing that, click on Generate API Key.

I’ve blurred my API key for security reasons, but you should see your key on the popup now.

Click on the Copy button and return to your WordPress website.

From your WordPress dashboard, open the ClickSocial menu and select the Setup My Account option.

Finally, paste the key into the field and click on Connect.

Step 3: Connect to Social Media

In this step, I’ll show you how to connect your WordPress site to social media with the help of ClickSocial.

Just click on Add Account to get started.

Doing that opens a popup with the 3 supported social media platforms:

  • Twitter/X
  • Facebook
  • Instagram

You can go with any of the options here. For a demonstration, I’ll just select Twitter.

Then, ClickSocial will redirect you to that social media platform so you can authorize it to make posts for you.

For Twitter/X, you can click on Authorize app.

Now, you’ve connected your WordPress site to social media. Before you continue, you can choose from 2 time zone options:

  • Use the social media account’s timezone
  • Use WordPress site timezone

Select whichever option you like and click on Finish Setup.

Step 4: Set Up Post Revival

You can now use ClickSocial’s post revival feature to auto share your WordPress content on social media.

To set it up, click on the Revive Post option on the left and select Setup Revival Posts.

Using the popup, you can choose the type of WordPress post that you want to share.

  • Date: Pick the publishing date for the posts you want to share
  • Tags: Select the tags that you’d like to include or exclude
  • Author: Choose the authors whose posts you want to auto share

For the filters, I decided to keep things simple and share all the posts that I made between the selected dates.

After you pick your filters, click on Next.

Step 5: Configure Your Post Template

Now, you can control how your shared WordPress post will look on social media.

Before you can do that, first, select the social media accounts that you want to post to.

After selecting the accounts, click on Next.

Next, you can add Dynamic Variables to the social media post. They’re pretty handy since they change depending on the specific WordPress post you’re sharing:

  • Post Title: Title of whichever post you’re sharing
  • Excerpt: Quick excerpt that you’ve made for the post
  • Short Post Link: Shortened link to your WordPress posts
  • Categories as Hashtags: Categories of that post shown as hashtags

After you select the variables, you can reorder them as well.

Finally, click on Next to proceed.

Step 6: Choose Posting Times

Using the checkboxes on the left, pick the days of the week when you want to post on social media.

For each day, you can use the Add time dropdown menu to select the specific time of the post.

I went with 9:00 AM here, but you can select any time you want.

Finally, click on the check icon to confirm the time.

You can add new time slots by clicking on the plus (+) icon near the dropdown menu.

Or, you can use the red trash icon to delete the time slots.

Take your time here and carefully select your posting schedule. Finally, hit the Next button.

Your WordPress posts will be auto-shared to social media on the selected day and time now.

ClickSocial lets you track all the posts that are going to be posted as well as the ones that have been published already.

You can also freely edit any of the posts or delete it from schedule.

And there you go!

This tool makes it pretty easy to auto share your older WordPress content to social media. Now you can get more site traffic and keep your social media followers interested at the same time.

Just remember to space out the WordPress posts you auto share, so people have enough time to appreciate each one.

Sign up for ClickSocial here and you can get started right away.

You can also embed social media feeds to WordPress for a great way to boost your social media engagement.
