Announcing Support for Facebook and Instagram oEmbeds in WordPress

Ever embed Facebook or Instagram content on your website by copying and pasting the URL into your WordPress editor?

Then read on, because our latest update will save your website from showing broken content.

Starting October 24th, you can’t embed Facebook or Instagram posts in WordPress by copying and pasting the URL into your posts and pages.

But, you can rest easy now. We have good news for you:

Today, we’re super excited to announce the release of Custom Facebook Feed Pro 3.16 and Instagram Feed Pro 5.8 plugins! By using these latest versions, you can continue embedding Facebook or Instagram content on your website by pasting the post URL into your editor.

Plus, your existing Facebook and Instagram embeds will keep working on your website.

This way, you can continue making the most of your social media marketing to grow your business over time.

Let’s take a closer look at how it all works.

Easiest Way to Embed Your Facebook and Instagram Content

Up until now, when you share a link to a Facebook or Instagram post in your website, WordPress automatically converts it into an embedded Facebook or Instagram post for you. This is known as an oEmbed.

But starting October 24, 2020, WordPress is discontinuing support for Facebook and Instagram oEmbeds.

So if you’ve embedded Facebook or Instagram content on your WordPress website by pasting the URL, this change can break the embedded posts. It’ll look like this:

Facebook requires that you’re registered as a developer with an actual app so you can continue embedding their content. Yikes.

But if you’re a Smash Balloon user, don’t worry!

Because the Smash Balloon team is always updated on the latest API changes, we’ve already created a fix in the latest versions of Custom Facebook Feed Pro and Instagram Feed Pro.

Here’s the best part: just update to the latest version and your existing Facebook and Instagram oEmbeds will continue to work smoothly. That’s it!

This way, when WordPress discontinues their support for Facebook and Instagram oEmbeds on October 24, you won’t experience any issues on broken content at all.

It’ll be a smooth ride all the way.

As a result, your social media content is still effective in establishing brand awareness and encouraging your site visitors to engage with you.

You can see a list of all the changes and improvements in this update in the Custom Facebook Feed changelog and Instagram Feed changelog and find more information about oEmbeds here.

Does this only work for pages you are an admin of or can we embed page content for other pages?
