Viewing TikTok Videos in Swipe View

Would you like your visitors to watch your TikTok videos in a fullscreen player they can swipe through, right on your site?

In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to turn on Swipe View for a TikTok feed and how it works for your visitors. All you need is TikTok Feeds Pro and a feed that shows your TikTok videos.

Requirements: Swipe View requires TikTok Feeds Pro version 1.8.0 or higher, available with any paid license level.

Before you get started, make sure TikTok Feeds Pro is installed and activated on your WordPress site. If you don’t have a feed yet, see our guide on creating a TikTok feed.

Each feed has a Video Player Experience setting that controls what happens when a visitor clicks a video. Videos can open in a lightbox, play inline in the feed, or open in Swipe View. By default, a feed uses the lightbox or the inline player, depending on its template.

Swipe View works in feeds that use the Grid, List, or Masonry layout.

Here is what we will cover:

Turning On Swipe View for a Feed

To get started, go to TikTok Feeds » All Feeds in your WordPress dashboard. Then, click the name of the feed where you’d like to use Swipe View.

Watching Videos in Swipe View

Next, we’ll look at Swipe View the way your visitors see it.

To open Swipe View, click a video in your feed on the front end of your site.

The video opens in a fullscreen, vertical player and starts playing. The player also shows your TikTok username with a Follow button, the caption, a View on TikTok button, and a share button. When your feed shows views and likes, the player shows the view, like, comment, and share counts too.

Here’s how visitors can use the player:

  • Move between videos — Swipe up or down, scroll, or click the arrows beside the player. The up and down arrow keys on a keyboard work too.
  • Pause or play a video — In the player, click or tap the video. The spacebar works too.
  • Turn the sound on or off — At the top of the player, click the speaker button. The M key works too.
  • Close the player — In the top-left corner, click the X. The Esc key works too.

Swipe View only moves through the videos that have loaded in that feed. Photo posts open in the lightbox instead.

That’s it! You now know how to turn on Swipe View for a TikTok feed and how it works for your visitors. Next, take a look at our guide on displaying multiple TikTok feeds on one page to show your Swipe View feed alongside other feeds.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below, we’ve answered some of the most common questions about Swipe View for TikTok videos.

Which layouts work with Swipe View?

Swipe View works with the Grid, List, and Masonry layouts. In the Carousel layout, videos open in a lightbox instead. The Gallery layout plays videos in its own player at the top of the feed.

To switch a feed to the Grid, List, or Masonry layout, click Layout in the feed editor. Then, select the layout you want, such as Grid. When you’re done, click Save. Your feed keeps its Video Player Experience setting.

Can I use Swipe View in some feeds and not others?

Yes. Each feed has its own Video Player Experience setting. You can choose Swipe for some feeds and keep the lightbox or inline player in others.

Why did my feed stop using Swipe View after I changed its template?

Each template comes with its own Video Player Experience setting. After you change the template, click Video Player Experience. Then, select Swipe again. When you’re done, click Save.

Why do my videos still open the old way after I turn on Swipe View?

Swipe View works in feeds that use the Grid, List, or Masonry layout. If your feed uses another layout, switch it to one of these in the feed editor’s Layout settings.

If your site uses a caching plugin, visitors can still see a copy of the page from before you saved your feed. In that case, clear your site’s cache. See How to Clear Your Cache in WordPress for a step-by-step guide.

Do videos play with sound in Swipe View?

Swipe View tries to play each video with sound. Some browsers only allow videos to start muted. In that case, click the speaker button to turn the sound on.

How do I preview Swipe View?

Since Swipe View runs on the front end, open a page on your site that shows your feed. Then, click a video to open it in Swipe View.

Does Swipe View work with GDPR mode?

Yes. When GDPR mode is on, videos open in Swipe View once the visitor gives consent. Until then, videos open in a lightbox.

Does Swipe View work on phones?

Yes. On a phone or tablet, visitors swipe up or down to move from one video to the next. To pause a video, they tap it.

How do I turn Swipe View off?

In the feed editor, click Video Player Experience. Then, select another option, such as In a lightbox. When you’re done, click Save.
