What’s the Problem?
Sometimes, when you use the Custom Facebook Feed Pro plugin to show your Facebook videos on your website, the videos might play, but the sound is missing. This often happens because Facebook thinks the video might have music or other content that you don’t have permission to use, even if you do, and they do not necessarily notify you of this. When this happens, you might see a message on top of the video that along the lines of “This video can’t be embedded because it may contain content owned by someone else.” The video might still play fine on Facebook itself, but the sound won’t work when it’s on your website.
Why Does This Happen?
Facebook has rules about embedding videos with music or content that might be copyrighted. Even if you have the rights or permissions to use the music or content, Facebook may still restrict embedding the audio. There are a few other cases where this might happen, such as using non-standard access rights to the Facebook Page. This means the way the plugin usually plays videos will not be able to play the audio track.
How to Fix It:
Luckily, there’s an easy fix! The Custom Facebook Feed Pro plugin has an option that uses the same video player that Facebook uses. This often allows the sound to play when the normal way doesn’t. Here’s how to turn it on:
- Log in to Your Website: Go to your WordPress website’s admin area (where you usually log in to make changes).
- Find Facebook Feed: In the menu on the side, find “Facebook Feed” and click on “All Feeds.”
- Pick the Feed You Need to Fix:Â Find the specific feed where the videos have no sound, and click that feed’s name or the Pen icon on the right to access the feed settings.
- Go to the Settings tab:Â After your feed loads, click on the Settings tab at the top of the sidebar.
- Find “Advanced”: On the Settings page, click on “Advanced” to see more settings.
- Change the Video Player:Â Look for a dropdown that says “Choose Video Player.” Click it and select “Default Facebook Player”.
- Save Your Changes:Â Click “Save” in the top right.
By choosing the “Default Facebook Player,” the plugin will use the official Facebook embed to play videos, which often fixes the missing sound.
Important Things to Remember:
- Please ensure you are not using a browser that automatically mutes audio in tabs automatically. If this is the case, you should see a “mute” icon in the tab where you otherwise expect audio.
- This fix only works if Facebook is blocking the sound because of possible copyright issues or minor access issues.
- If the sound still doesn’t work after you do this, it might mean Facebook has completely blocked the sound for that video. In those cases, even using the Facebook player won’t fix it.
- This fix will work best if you are certain you have the right to use the music or content included in your videos. If you believe Facebook has made an invalid Copyright claim against your video, please see their documentation here for further information on your next steps.
