With the deprecation of Instagram’s Basic Display API in December 2024, switching from a Personal account to a Professional account is essential to keep your Instagram feeds working on your WordPress site using our plugin.
Depending on your needs, you can convert your account to a Business or Creator account. Both types are compatible with our plugin and offer specific features.
Step-by-Step Guide to Convert to a Professional Account on Desktop
1. Log in to Instagram
• Go to instagram.com and log in with your account credentials.
• Click on your profile picture in the top-right corner.
• Select Settings and privacy from the dropdown menu.

3. Go to Account Type and Tools
• In the left sidebar, click on Account type and tools.
• Select Switch to professional account.
4. Select Your Professional Account Type
Depending on your needs, choose either:
• Business Account: Ideal for companies, brands, and organizations: Learn more about Business Accounts
• Creator Account: Best for influencers, content creators, and public figures: Learn more about Creator Accounts
5. Choose Your Category
• Select a category that best represents your profile, such as “Blogger,” “Artist,” or “Local Business.”
• You can choose whether to display this category publicly.
6. Review Your Contact Information
• Instagram will ask you to add or update contact details such as email, phone number, or address.
• You can choose whether to make this information public.
7. Complete the Setup
• Follow the remaining prompts to finish the setup.
• Once complete, your account will be converted to a Professional account.
What Happens After the Switch?
After converting your personal profile to a Business or Creator account, you will need to reconnect your Instagram account to our WordPress plugin. This ensures your feed continues displaying posts seamlessly without any interruptions due to the API change.
