While you don’t need an Access Token in order to use the Custom Facebook Feed plugin we do recommend it. An Access Token is required by Facebook in order to access their public data API. The plugin has a shared token built into it and so it isn’t necessary for you to have your own to use the plugin, however, having your own dedicated token will help to isolate you from any potential issues which could occur with the token built into the plugin. If you don’t have an Access Token but you’d like to use your own in the plugin then just follow the instructions here.
The format of a regular Access Token looks like this:
“User” Access Tokens
For some rare situations, mentioned here and here, you may need to use a “User” Access Token. There are directions here on how to get one, and they look similar to the format shown below. Please note that for the vast majority of users a “User” Access Token isn’t required and it’s highly recommended to use a regular Access Token instead due to the fact that User tokens need to be renewed every 60 days.
